She emigrated from Nazi-occupied Hungary to the United States in 1941. She went on to appear in dozens of films and television shows, and got married a whopping nine times. Her husbands included actor George Sanders and hotel magnate Conrad Hilton. Born Feb. 6, 1917.
Permalink American comedian and actor Red Buttons (born Aaron Chwatt).He began doing standup during the Second World War, and debuted on Broadway in 1942. He appeared in the Army Air Forces’ Broadway show of Winged Victory in 1943 with Lee J. Cobb, Mario Lanza, John Forsythe and Karl Malden. He continued to perform on Broadway after the war.In 1957, he won an Academy Award for his role in Sayonara, in which he co-starred with Marlon Brando. He then went on to act in several films like The Poseidon Adventure, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, Hatari! and When Time Ran Out.
